A Wonderland Wedding and a Divorce for a Dash!

By Stephfon Guidry

Can love last when it is under the microscope of the public eye and broadcast to millions of viewers at home and online? The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) states that 6.4 per 1,000 in the U.S. wed and 3.4 (~50 percent) per 1,000 divorce here in the U.S. Celebrity marriages are no exception to marriage statistics. Brittany Spears and Jason Allen Alexander lasted 55 hours before an annulment, Jenifer Lopez and Cris Judd lasted 6 months, which puts the 72 days of wedded bliss shared by Kim Kardashian seem normal in the lives of high profile individuals in the U.S.

As Twitter (trending topic #thingsLONGERthanKimsMarriage), Facebook (from my timeline from DASH to Divorcee), and many other social networks have exploded this week.  All over the divorce of 3 month marriage between owner of DASH and “Keeping Up with the Kardashian’s” Star Kim Kardashian and NBA star Kris Humphries. Tabloids sensed the first to sight of unhappy nuptials yet it was recently confirmed by both parties through more credible sources such as, FoxNews and more. A wedding that had more sponsorship than an NBA player at a recorded $10 million, a 20 carat engagement ring that cost a whopping $2 million to her beau, Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce with the L. A. Supreme Court.

Kimmy K released this heart-felt message to the press: “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best” (The Marquee Blog/ Shocked Kris Humphries responded saying; “”I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.” A colossal wedding featured in two full length episodes of the Keeping Up with the Kardashian’s show now ending due to “irreconcilable differences”. It’s sad to note that Kimmy K didn’t find her happily ever after on the court of life and love with Kris Humphries.
