Nick Cannon diagnosed with Lupus

By Stephfon Guidry

Actor, rapper, and entertainer 31-year old, Nick Cannon was recently diagnosed with lupus nephritis after suffering kidney failure due to a blood clot in his lungs, in January. Nick Cannon (aka Diva Mariah Carey’s husband) seems on the road to recovery and slowing down with hosting America’s got Talent as well as his other efforts. The illness is statistically rare (1 in 10) for men to women but it is more prevalent in blacks than whites. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in various organs; specifically Lupus Nephritis is centered on the kidneys.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Cannon describes his health scare, “Everyone should be aware of their body and taking care of themselves. I was kind of overloading my body.” He spoke about treatments, “I’ve never been one to like take medicines and I am finding all of holistic ways like meditation. And the diet is the worst! No happy meals I’m sad.” Nick Cannon continued to share his story with “Access Hollywood” and talked a little bit about ‘Dr. Carey’ and the twins, Monroe and Morrocan. Cannon candidly speaks about wife Mariah Carey, “She’s singing right now in the studio. She’s in great shape. You think I’m busy? She’s busy. She’s Super Mom.” (HuffingtonPost.com)

Nick Cannon joins a surprising group of celebrities that have been diagnosed with lupus, Seal, Leslie Hunt (American Idol), Mercedes Yvette, Toni Braxton, Kelly Stone (Sharon Stone’s sister) and others. Nick Cannon is recuperating and handling his busy life with entertainment, his children, his wife and his illness all in stride.
