The Best Man Holiday Trailer

By Che Ereku

the-best-man-holidayAre you ready for a “holiday” HC? -And I’m not just talking about Queen Madonna’s eighties smash hit!- The trailer to the sequel of the 1999 romantic comedy, “The Best Man,” directed by Malcolm D. Lee, has arrived and it is packed with familiar faces and a new Greek god by the name of Eddie Cibrian who plays Brian McDaniels.

By the looks of the trailer, “The Best Man Holiday” is not going to pick up where the first film left off, but hopefully it will have a few flashbacks that will give some background on the characters relationship with one another as well as what may have transpired within the fourteen years of their lives. We all remember the trifling book that the character Harper Stewart, played by Taye Diggs, wrote that ignited the feud between him and his best friend, Lance Sullivan, played by Morris Chestnut. Hopefully, there will be another book or more skeletons trying to claw their way out of the closet.

Furthermore, fourteen years is a long time to not come out with a sequel to a film, which leads me to my next question, “Why the long wait?” There are obvious factors to consider such as (1) not having a distributor pick up the script, (2) certain actors probably asked for an increase in salary, or (3) the timing was not right. Whatever the reason may be, the trailer does make up for it since it looks entertaining and funny.

“The Best Man Holiday” stars some, if not all, actors of Black Hollywood like Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun and of course the sexy Morris Chestnut, and will be in theaters November 15, 2013.

Will you be heading to the theaters? I sure will be!

tlc-600The teaser trailer for the best female selling group of all time, ‘TLC,’ has been released to the public to see called, “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.” ‘TLC’ has been such an inspiration to many people, especially females, all over the world as they continued to spread awareness and positivity through their music. So, it is about time that their story is told to the world! For the past two years, rumors of the group’s biopic has been speculating amongst many blog sites and for a brief minute I thought this biopic will get axed if neither a major network or film studio picked it up. Luckily, VH1 chose to be the platform for this film in order for the fans to get the real “tea” on what occurred behind the scenes either after or before interviews, concerts and overall within their personal lives.

With regards to this teaser of a trailer, it does not look like the biopic is going to be spectacular. I am aware that this is just a teaser, but come on! I was not expecting to see just a remake of their biggest hits in the trailer. That is not a trailer worth all this wait to see! I am hoping that executive producers and two-thirds of ‘TLC’, T-Boz and Chili, do not try to overlook the drama amongst the three of them, including the late and talented Left-Eye. Left-Eye passed away in a car crash while on a spiritual retreat with family and friends in Honduras on April 25, 2002. While filming her documentary that debuted on VH1, “The Last Days of Left Eye,” I do recall her addressing several hot topics in regards to the group not wanting to work with their producer, Dallas Austin, because of the amount of money he was asking in order to produce records for them, the infamous fire incident with her then boyfriend, Andre Rison, where Left-Eye set fire to his sneakers in the bathroom which caused the fire to spread throughout the mansion and of course speaking out publicly about the group filing for bankruptcy.

I am crossing my fingers that the ‘TLC’ biopic will be well worth the wait and informative about what really went on behind the scenes with their record label and with one another.

The ‘TLC’ biopic is set to premiere in October on VH1. Will you be tuning in? I most definitely will just to see if they covered all the juicy topics that made headlines during their prime!

Wolverine Scratches to the No.1 Spot

By Stephfon Guidry

the-wolverine-movie-picture-30While Man of Steel leaped box office numbers in a single bound with $125million Marvel comics sequel Wolverine scratched $55million. The movie featured a PTSD ridden reclusive X-man Wolverine, Hugh Jackman (@RealHughJackman) trampling through Canada pining over his murdered love Jean Grey (played by Famke Janssen). The whole movie Wolverine is slicing and dicing as a ronnin–a warrior with no master– but does this make up for the slow storyline and sparse character development? Not really 1 ½ out of 3 claws. The eyegasms for me in the movie came from seeing Jackman’s abs cut from the “adamantium” in his bones and the fits and fashions of Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). Viper is a venomous scientist; with literally the kiss of death and nothing butt skin tight designer duds. Her outfit for the funeral was everything!  Now back to the movie Shkknt! GRUNTS. Wolverine makes love to a wronged Japanese heiress,  Mariko (Tao Okamoto) who was hunted most of the film by countless Yakuza thugs and a  band of ninja led by her ex-boo, Harada aka Will Yun Lee . The UNexpected shocker is the faked death and reappearance of Yashida himself, Hal Yamanouchi Silver Samurai. Uncanny as it may seem from an X-men fan like me the movie was ok but I’m titillated by the after the credits clip. Marvel Comics could not end the movie without giving the fans a spoiler to go home talking about X-Men Days of Future Past. After the credits roll Wolverine is in an airport only to be stopped by Magneto (Ian McKellan) and a resurrected Professor X (Patrick Stewart).

Fruitvale Station: In Theaters Nationwide this Friday

By Melvin Browne

4c3072f6f34c11e28abf22000a1f9bf5_7With just a limited release “Fruitvale Station” has achieved rave reviews from celebrities and film critics alike. Director Ryan Coogler’s film is the winner of both Grand Jury Prize for dramatic feature and the Audience Award for the U.S. dramatic film from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Fruitvale Station is based on a true story about Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan), a 22-year-old Bay area resident who wakes up on the morning of December 31, 2008 and sensed it would not be a regular day.

Not sure what it is, he takes it as a sign to get a head start on his resolutions: being a better son to his mother (Octavia Spencer), whose birthday falls on New Year’s Eve, being a better partner to his girlfriend Sophina (Melonie Diaz), who he hasn’t been completely honest with as of late, and being a better father to Tatiana (Ariana Neal), their beautiful four year-old daughter. Crossing paths with friends, family and strangers, Oscar starts out well, as the day goes on, he realizes that changes are not going to come easily. His resolve takes a tragic turn, however, when BART officers shoot him in cold blood at the Fruitvale subway stop on New Year’s Day. Oscar’s life and tragic death would shake the Bay Area – and the entire nation – to its very core.

In a time where young men are being murdered by “local enforcement”, this film could not have come at a better time. “Fruitvale Station” goes from limited to full nationwide release this coming Friday, July 26th. If you cannot wait till then, check out the limited release cities below as well as the Trailer and Photos from the film.

olympus-has-fallen-posterWhen the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President and avert an even bigger crisis. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directs an all-star cast featuring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Ashley Judd and Rick Yune.

I am especially excited to see my girl Angela Bassett act as head of the Secret Service, a role typically played by a male. As we all know about Angela she always brings the goods! Lynne Jacobs is the steely, strict, and tough director of the Secret Service. Excellent at her job, she’s known for always having everything under control. After terrorists take control of the White House, she’s a vital part of the security team working feverishly to save the president and her country during the crisis.

If you are in need of a great date movie, a good feeling film, or just quality eye-opening cinema then you need to catch a glimpse of The Skinny! Patrick Ian Polk, writer/director & creative genius has done it again with this fanciful film. The Advanced screening in Harlem on Wednesday took my breath away. There was not a minute wasted on any character or the messages within the film.

The Skinny gives a fresh real life look into the rollercoaster ride of love in the lives of five close-knit friends from college reuniting on a Pride weekend in NYC.  Magnus (Jussie Smollett) the main character gives you class, intellect, and so much nurturing that he is nothing but lovable. Joey has a looks that are to die for and a wit to match, but is it all just an armor hiding a hopeless romantic? Langston is a woman with beauty that all must stop and see; she’s educated, sexy and is looking for a special lady.  Sebastian (Blake Young-Fountain) is the adorable, innocent almost naïve cute friend that everyone must protect. Kyle (Anthony Burrell) draws men to him like a moth to a flame, is TRADE down, and always searching for a new conquest even when his prize might be in front his eyes.  The Skinny is a movie that you will not want to stop. Patrick Ian Polk wove the storylines, the laughter and drama as well as the realness of life’s consequences within the film there is something very universal about the film. The SkinNY saved NYC for last now go out to the West Village Quad Cinema: 1:05/3:15/5:35/7:50/10:00 located at 34 West 13th St. B/w 5th & 6th or Harlem Fire House Theater: 3:30/7:30/5:30/9:30 located at 6 Hancock Place 124th & St. Nicholas!

‘One For the Money’

Katherine Heigl brings Stephanie Plum — the popular heroine of Janet Evanovich’s worldwide best-selling seventeen-book mystery series — to vibrant life in ‘One For the Money’.

A proud, born-and-bred Jersey girl, Stephanie Plum’s got plenty of attitude, even if she’s been out of work for the last six months and just lost her car to a debt collector. Desperate for some fast cash, Stephanie turns to her last resort: convincing her sleazy cousin to give her a job at his bail bonding company…as a recovery agent. True, she doesn’t even own a pair of handcuffs and her weapon of choice is pepper spray, but that doesn’t stop Stephanie from taking on Vinny’s biggest bail-jumper: former vice cop and murder suspect Joe Morelli — yup, the same sexy, irresistible Joe Morelli who seduced and dumped her back in high school.

Nabbing Morelli would be satisfying payback — and a hefty payday — but as Stephanie learns the ins and outs of becoming a recovery agent from Ranger, a hunky colleague who’s the best in the business, she also realizes the case against Morelli isn’t airtight. Add to the mix her meddling family, a potentially homicidal boxer, witnesses who keep dying and the problem of all those flying sparks when she finds Morelli himself…well, suddenly Stephanie’s new job isn’t nearly as easy as she thought.

Red Tails Flies into the Box Office Spot #2

By Stephfon Guidry

After critics both nation and internationally thought it would flop ‘Red Tails’ soars in box offices earnings with $19.1 million in the first three days, becoming the #2 movie in America to ‘Underworld: Awakening’. The $58 Million dollar historical box office earned its wings through the 23 year battle that the award-winning George Lucas endured. Red Tails fought the naysayers of having an all-African American cast with no “Great White Hope” saving the day. The film follows the monumental exploits of the men of the WWII Tuskegee Airmen and their fight for equality as well as freedom for this great nation.

The Cast of Red Tails is star-studded with Terrance Howard (Iron Man, The Best Man) and Cuba Gooding Jr. The story seemed to inspire the cast mates, Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry McGuire, Radio) and David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Help). David Oyelowo spoke to CNN about his experience researching the history of the film, “Having been born and raised in the UK, the notion of a “historically black college” is alien to me, but it seems they are born out of necessity; a necessity that I personally hope will not outlast my lifetime.” He seemed amazed with the history of the campus where it all began in Alabama. Oyelowo observed the pride and enthusiasm of the students at TU as the cast came to absorb the essence of their film and characters. His final thought rings true to the movie, “Dr. Roscoe Brown, who was one of the original Tuskegee Airmen and a consultant on the film, expressed the hope that our film will remind young people that it is “cool to be smart.” (

Red Tails is currently in theaters still making news over its controversial struggle to be produced based solely on the content of the color of its cast and not the power behind the story of its film.
