Trading Season for The Game

By Stephfon Guidry

The GAME season 5 brought said good bye to some and hello to show regulars like Brandy but it was not done with the drama on and off the field. BET’s hit show the GAME says they don’t chase em they replace em as Tia Mowry-Hardict and Pooch Hall exit stage left! The producers are pressing forward with a show must go on attitude as they search for two new characters.

With Tia Mowry leaving the show, producers are looking for a new female actress to join the cast in the regular role of Kiera, a 20-year-old former child star who has been in the spotlight since she was five years old and starring on a “Cosby” style sitcom. According to the casting call, she’s bright and charming, but struggling into transitioning into a grown-up career.

Kiera isn’t the only newbie in town! Another series regular will be hired to play Bryce “The Blueprint” Westbook – a #1, Ivy League draft pick running back who breaks every “dumb athlete” stereotype. He’s not only got a Heisman Trophy, but he’s usually the smartest guy in the room — which sets his new teammates on edge.

Are fans so fickle to say that as Season 6 of the Game approaches they are ready for two new characters or will these fresh faces be exactly what will shake the game up?

For the Love of THE GAME

By Stephfon Guidry

Does anyone play by the rules? BET’s The GAME, the stations top rated-most watched scripted show in its HISTORY, reprises its Tuesday Takeover for Season 5 with more drama off the field than sacs on the fantasy football game. Blue Ivy might just be a newborn but Melanie’s “college” abortion causes nothing but drama in her household mainly because Derwin You are NOT the Father! His reaction was typical of his character angry black man syndrome however it was Melanie’s picture perfect monologue about them going to bed that got me.

It must be love for Melanie and Derwin to be at the point in the relationship when they are having conversation while he on the toilet. Where dey do that at? Tasha and Malik was a pair the entire episode they had to resolve Malik’s infatuations with Jenna, his model “junkie” girlfriend—SIDEBAR: Is it just me or did Tasha’s weave need a lil adjusting? TT’s “Let me be your magical Black Man” line that had me in stitches and his insight was endearing for Tasha the entire episode. Jason’s plot seemed very colorstruck–Light-skinned Boy with Black Woman issues (Classic)—from in bed with a bodacious black press attendant to jumping the broom with Brandy aka Chardonnay. The Newlyweds have a lover’s quarrel that pushes Jason to reveal his predictable tale why he doesn’t do black women. The episode ends with DJ’s birthday party where Derwin sees for himself the jagged little pill that Melanie has to swallow as a stepmother. Season 5 gives the viewers what we expected comedy wrapped in a whole lot of drama. Let BET’s the GAME tackle your tv Tuesdays at 10 P.M. /9 C.

And if the Heisman hijinks of The GAME aren’t enough love triangles and laughs tune in to Let’s Stay Together right after filled with relationships, marriages, and mayhem.

Dark Times for BET Hip-Hop Awards – Black Carpet

By Ibrahim Malik

I’m glad BET did a black carpet because last night’s BET HIP HOP Awards show black carpet was a red carpet’s funeral and leading the procession was WORST Dressed Diamond  giving “Ho in Morning” tease and Rick Ross embodied the entire sky. I swear I commend anyone who writes a best and worst dressed list for the BET Awards because I want to give them all “F’s”. Seriously, Did we expect an eye-catching “Black Carpet” with absentee Divas like Beyoncé, Rihanna, or Nicki Minaj or even the Faux Divas Ciara or Keri Hilson. Diamond looked like a combination of Black swan and the wicked witch of the South. It makes me think WWRD = ‘WhatWouldRihannaDo”? for her Rated R album.  Wale <> Let’s give him three claps that his dreds finally reached his shoulders but #Lowkey he was looking sexy.

Diana Ross needed to come get her kids; Closet Case Evan Ross was serving Homeless Chic, while his big sister Tracee Ellis Ross was “Almost” Best Dressed. She had a great outfit but just decided to steal some horseshoes and painted the bottom red LONGhairREDbottoms. Tracee’s co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner was a breath of fresh air for the guys with a youthful clean look, definitely Best Dressed Male.   NELLY wins my SEXIEST Rapper Alive award, I mean his style was hood and basic but still sexy—He stayed true to his personal style. Honoree LL Cool J who normally brings his Sexy Swagger appeared to have just rolled out of bed and licked his lips and he was dressed. I am at a loss of words when it comes to the Da Brat, I didn’t get it but it’s definitely her Style.  Others such as Big Sean & Ace Hood, were the rappers standard. I would’ve preferred them to be shirtless or in “Big” Sean case with no pants. And to sum up everyone else, just think tight and tacky for the ladies and jeans, t-shirt & Bling for the fellas. BET please GET IT TOGETHER for next year! the BET Hip Hop Awards Encore airs This Friday, October 14th 9PM/8C

No Shows at the Award Show

By Stephfon Guidry

BET Hip Hop Awards entertained, opened ears and made you laugh; it mended a friendship that was long overdue for some forgiveness.  Truly da King of the South is the rubber band man, as T.I. bounced back with flexing (iHope he didn’t FLEX too much in jail) rhymes and his classic swagger the crowd welcomed his return. Atlantic Civic Center opened its doors to urban hip hop legends Heavy D, DMX, Da Brat and more.

First let me dish out all those tweeting #WINNING from their velvet seats last night:  Chris Brown took four awards all for his club banging, douging hit “Look at Me Now”, Lil Wayne scored meager two awards #IdemandAreCOUNT, Nicki Minaj won two as well and Kanye West, Jay-Z, Waka Floka Fame and more. Rap titan himself nominated for a dominating 18 nods receiving only two, Lil Wayne aka Lil Tunchi, gripped the coveted Lyricists of Year and Best Live Performer awards.  Rihanna found the love enough to comment positively on Chris Brown’s night of #WINNING, “It’s incredible to see how he pulled out the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him.”  (Msn.com) Performances that turned heads and kept the crowd fresh on the beat from the most notable Cyphers: Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Maybach Music Group, and Chris Breezy himself.   As the heavyweight lover grabbed the mic it took the show back to 1988 hits, beats, and a groove Heavy D a Hip Hop legend rocked the mic right.

“It ain’t a red carpet. It’s a sidewalk, bloody from the wolves eating red meat, and these spotlights don’t come with money — they come with police,” spoke LL Cool J to a rapt audience hanging on every word. LL Cool J challenged the newcomers to the game to use their mic for a message leaving the award show and hip hop with a charge of a new direction GLEE.

BET New Sitcom “Reed Between the Lines”

Following the Hip Hop Awards or Hood Honors premiered the black sitcom “Reed between the Lines”, featuring the talents of Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross. Daughter of the Diva and the quintessential only son of the most iconic African American family in television history (the Cosby Show, if you don’t know you have lived under a rock for eons!) come together to create their own merging of laughs, love and life lessons on a show all about the black family of today facing its problems together. Reed Between the lines l isn’t an open book or a NY Best seller and it needs some time to grow—yet the actors’ chemistry flows through the screen.  The show provides some comedy, casting that gives young and seasoned black actors a chance; Ross gives a convincing psychologist and Warner plays a professor eloquently.  I predict, Reed between the Lines potentially may tackle everything from maintaining marriage intimacy, raising children, keeping a family together, and life with friends as well as life with family—Ross and Warner just snagged a viewer in me. So tune in to BET on Tuesdays at 10 ET p.m. and catch “Reed Between the Lines”.

EXPRESS Yourself! Photo-shoots & Fights!

By Stephfon Guidry

It’s time to catch up on all the gossip, judging, drama, and get ready for some entertainment. This week on BBWLA one of the wives gets ghost on the show and on Top Model while one girl has a life and death scare the girls audition to work with the dead.

Drop dead beautiful doesn’t mean a photogenic diva, with ANTM All-stars. This week’s episode of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 17, features the girls in an acting challenge for a role on CSI and a photo shoot with chocolate Adonis David Agbodji for EXPRESS!! Yes ma’am Yes girl!  It was shocking that Angelea got best photo and Bre won the acting challenge being told that she delivered the role, with a classy authentic edge. Sadly the bottom to beauties don’t surprise me Lisa, while her antics and Wild Child persona work for some it did not translate into the photo shoot this week. Camille a lady who’s walk did make her famous didn’t bring enough charisma, uniqueness nerve and talent (Oops wrong show!) to the table. The One photo left in Tyra’s hands was Lisa’s I guess being a Wild Child does win out over being a DIVA

Meanwhile on Basketball Wives: LA, Ms. Kimsha Artest decided that the show was not for her after only two shows, the fans feel ripped off. But the producers told VH1, “..After a limited number of days shooting she stopped showing up for filming. This is the sole and only reason Kimsha has not appeared on more episodes of the series.” (VH1.com)  In the past episode they literally found a LEGAL loophole and a person “simple” enough to get a beatdown—Draya got in a mixed martial arts ring with Laura and went down for the count. It was revealed, that Gloria and Matt apparently are not as close to the altar as Matt thought. It becomes “high school” Mean Girls-esque as these grown *** women Google Draya just to dredge up more dirt. As the drama erupts at Beso, during a girls WhoRuntheWorld night out and Imani proclaims, “I don’t care how much you deny it; I will never believe you.”

BET Hip “Hood” Hop Awards are coming next week so get ready for the Hennessey on deck and the rhymes to hit the stage. Lil Wayne aka the Who Dat Nation great Black Hope is dominating the show with 18 nominations! T.I. is free and ready to open the show with more rhymes than Dr. Seuss the show will have everyone in the crowd, DVR-ing, and at home rocking in the seat. The Oh so Classy and Lip-Licking King LL Cool J will be receiving the coveted I AM HIP HOP ICON award as well as an homage to Game Changers, like Lauren Hill, Queen Latifah, Run DMC and more. Gear up for next the BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday October 11, 2011 8 p.m. ET with performances by Rick Ross, Lupe Fiasco, DMX, and Wiz Khalifa as well as the Rap Cyphers.
