SUPER SUNDAY Super Show and Sportsmanship!

By Stephfon Guidry

SUPERBOWL XLVI! It’s the word on everyone’s lips today, a game that produced more endorsements and commercials than almost any other event in national television. The Super Bowl is essentially a great game of football a battle of state pride, and this year did not disappoint as the NY Giants and NE Patriots took to the field with a hunger.  Constantly the names of Tom Brady, Victor Cruz—the End zone Salsa King–Eli and Payton Manning were thrown around the media hours before the game began. GIANTS took it home 21-17, they cut it close at the end but held the line and came through with a victory bringing a flash back to 2008 (Super Bowl XLII).

Super Sunday presented grand performances by Lenny Kravitz, Blake Lewis (the Voice), Kelly Clarkson, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., LMFAO, and Cee-Lo. Madonna turned out a stellar production for half-time coming on to the field carried by a Greek Legion belting out “Vogue”. Her collaborations with LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, MIA, and Cee-Lo were phenomenal. Madonna’s half-time concert included hits LMFAO’s “Sexy and I know it” “Like A Prayer” and her new chart topping single “Gimme All Your Luvin”.  She ended the vocal and visual experience of a lifetime with an electric field-seized banner of the words “WORLD PEACE”.

However the GIANTS win was overshadowed a bit by controversy over some very crude tweet of CNN correspondent, Roland Martin. Martin decided to comment on the H&M commercial featuring hunky soccer star, David Beckham, “Ain’t no real brush gonna buy some David Beckham H&M underwear! #superbowl” (Metroweekly.com) He continued his rant tweeting, “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him! #superbowl” As fans and followers responded to him on twitter he last tweeted, “@briansmith31681 @onmysoapboxx you chose to call me homophobic when I’m cracking on Beckham because of soccer, Yes Ignorant!” His responses to criticism on twitter were remarks like, “you are out of touch with what I meant” or is this or that “slamming gays”.

Following the astounding performance of the NY GIANTS, came the season 2 premiere of theVOICE! Christina Aguilerra, Adam Levine, Blake Lewis, and Cee-Lo Green prepare to find the most talented and unique new voice that will serenade America!
